Last month, the team at St Johns took part in a charity bungee jump from the Verzasca Dam in Switzerland, to raise money for the Samaritans of Liverpool and Merseyside.

The dam, which sits at a height of 220m above the Verzasca River, famously appeared in a stunt sequence in the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye, voted the best movie stunt of all time.

Braving the epic jump was Centre Director, Neil Ashcroft, alongside fellow St Johns team members Anthony Bailey, Ahmed Karim and John Costello. Their efforts raised over £6,000 for the charity through corporate donations. All of the funds raised went directly to The Samaritans of Liverpool and Merseyside.

Neil said “Our people are important to us. They make the centre the vibrant place that it is, and we’re always thinking of new and creative ways to raise money and make a difference to people’s lives. Our centre has been an imperative part of the community for over 50 years, and we’re delighted to be able to support the Samaritans through this initiative, playing our part in giving back to the community.”

Rachel Howley, Development Manager at the Samaritans of Liverpool and Merseyside, added: “It’s great to see a local community shopping centre raising money and investing it where it’s most needed.

“These donations will directly impact local people who urgently require our help, and we are incredibly thankful to Neil and the St Johns team for their continued support.”
