Our charity partnership with Zoe’s Place has now come to an end and what a fantastic three months it’s been!

We’ve helped to raise thousands of pounds, and awareness of the amazing work it does in caring for babies and young children who have life-threatening or limiting conditions.

St Johns chose the hospice, which is based in West Derby, as our first charity partner for 2018 and we’ve had a packed diary of events since April.

Our centre manager Neil Ashcroft got things off to a high-flying start when he dressed up as Bananaman to take part in Radio City’s Superhero Skydive down St Johns Beacon.

Neil kept his head for heights – 452ft high to be precise! – and managed to raise around £1,000 for Zoe’s Place.

On the Bank Holiday weekend, May 26, we made the most of the Tall Ships sailing into the Mersey to put on maritime themed events, giving fund-raisers a chance to collect valuable donations. We welcomed the Port Sunlight Sea Dogs for a rousing afternoon performance of sea shanties, and had youngsters making their own boats and taking sea-themed selfies in the food court while Zoe’s Place volunteers collected.

Promotional days in the centre throughout May and June also helped the charity to showcase its upcoming events including an abseil at the Cathedral on August 11 and a 5k Bubble Rush in Croxteth Park on September 30.

Our big fund-raising finale for Zoe’s Place came on June 23 with One Great Day, a whole day of performances and activities which raised almost £1,400.  We had everything from a ping pong tournament and cycle sessions to a dance showcase from MD Productions and a group salsa session with Hola People.

Centre manager Neil said: “We’ve loved having Zoe’s Place as our partner for the past three months – it’s not only helped them raise a lot of money, it’s been great fun having them too. Our customers have been really supportive of what is a fantastic cause.”

The grand total raised was £5,458.11!

St Johns next charity partner is the Motor Neurone Disease Association so please check our social media for events.
