St Johns Shopping Centre were announced as joint winners of Best Retail Team alongside Silverberg Opticians at the ECHO Retail Awards. The awards, which took place on Sunday 7th October at the Titanic Hotel, celebrated the best and brightest names in Liverpool retail. Following the success of the awards’ 2017 debut, this year made an even bigger splash.

Over the past year, the St Johns team have come together to make great changes within the centre. These differences have allowed us to beat national trends and experience a 3% increase in sales, as well as a 1.5% rise in footfall. More than 200,000 extra shoppers visited St Johns in the first three months of 2018, and the team has adjusted accordingly.

Making a push towards inclusivity, every member of the management team has received disability training in compliance with an initiative called ‘Disability Confident’, which is designed to help disabled people to achieve their full potential.

Around 60 people from the management team, security, maintenance and support staff also underwent Autism Awareness training. The staff now wear official badges to identify themselves to people with autism.

Neil Ashcroft, Centre Manager, said of the win, “We value our customers, and we know that our team needs to be prepared to help them in anyway we can. 2018 has been a very progressive year for St Johns, and we’ll continue to move forward with improvements to our staff both internally and externally.

“This award is a fantastic acknowledgement of the hard work our team has put in over the past year. As well as engaging with shoppers, we’ve regularly been teaming up with local charities to help them raise awareness for their cause. We’re proud of the role we play within the Liverpool community, and always aim to make a positive impact in everything we do. It’s an honour that the ECHO Retail Awards have recognised our efforts, and we promise to live up to the title.”
