St Johns Shopping Centre Celebrates Five International CSR Excellence Awards

St Johns Shopping Centre has been recognised with five prestigious International CSR Excellence Awards, celebrating its commitment to delivering meaningful social, environmental and economic impact across Liverpool.

The International CSR Excellence Awards recognise organisations that demonstrate outstanding commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, showcasing businesses that create positive change through sustainability, community engagement, employee wellbeing and social value initiatives. Judged by an independent panel, the awards celebrate organisations that prove commercial success and responsible business can go hand in hand.

The five award-winning projects span community commitment, arts and culture, employee wellbeing, environmental responsibility and mental health, reinforcing St Johns’ position as one of the UK’s leading socially responsible retail destinations.

Building Pathways, Not Projects

Community Commitment Award

This award recognises St Johns’ long-term investment in Liverpool’s communities through charitable partnerships, education programmes, environmental initiatives and public realm improvements. Across 2024 and 2025, the centre supported 10 local charities, distributed more than 1,500kg of donated goods, delivered £7,500 in charitable giving and engaged over 200 children through environmental education projects. The initiative forms part of a wider commitment that includes planting 1,000 trees across the Liverpool City Region, creating a lasting environmental legacy for future generations.

Learning Without Walls

Arts & Culture Award

The award-winning Liverpool Wall of Wonder transformed the upper level of St Johns Car Park into a vibrant 145-metre public art installation celebrating Liverpool’s culture, identity and creativity. Delivered in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, the project provided a paid internship opportunity for an emerging artist while creating a striking new landmark that enhances the visitor experience and celebrates local talent.

Fit ‘n’ Fresh January

Employee Wellbeing Award

Recognising that successful destinations are powered by engaged and motivated teams, St Johns launched Fit ‘n’ Fresh January to support employee wellbeing during one of the most challenging periods of the year. The programme encouraged healthier lifestyles, flexible working and positive workplace habits, resulting in improved wellbeing, productivity and workplace satisfaction amongst participants.

Growing Greener Together

Environmental Responsibility Award

Growing Greener Together showcases St Johns’ commitment to environmental leadership and community engagement. The initiative includes one of the UK’s longest Green Living Walls, spanning 65 metres and featuring more than 14,000 plants, alongside rooftop beehives supporting up to 120,000 bees. Through partnerships with local schools, hundreds of children have participated in sustainability education and biodiversity projects. Operationally, St Johns has also achieved significant reductions in energy consumption while maintaining zero waste to landfill since 2022.

Blue Monday: Kindness in Action

Mental Health & Community Wellbeing Award

Rather than focusing on retail promotions, St Johns used Blue Monday as an opportunity to prioritise human connection and community wellbeing. Through simple acts of kindness, conversations on the centre’s Chatty Bench, gifts for visitors and recognition of frontline colleagues, the initiative helped tackle loneliness while creating meaningful moments of positivity for customers and staff alike.

One Vision. Five Awards.

Together, these five award-winning initiatives demonstrate St Johns Shopping Centre’s belief that commercial success and social responsibility are fundamentally interconnected. Through sustained investment in communities, sustainability, employee wellbeing, culture and education, St Johns continues to create value far beyond retail, delivering lasting benefits for people, place and planet.

Neil Ashcroft, Centre Director at St Johns Shopping Centre, said:

“These awards are a fantastic recognition of the passion, commitment and hard work of our team and partners. At St Johns, we believe shopping centres have a responsibility that extends beyond retail. Whether it’s supporting local communities, investing in sustainability, championing wellbeing or creating opportunities through education and the arts, we are committed to making a positive difference.
